We Refinished the Floors at a Forbes Five-Star Hotel

Getting a call from a Forbes Five-Star hotel is not something we take lightly. This is a property recognized as one of the finest in the world - and they trusted us to refinish the hardwood floors throughout their main lobby and common areas. That kind of trust means everything to us.

Here's what we were working with: a massive, high-traffic lobby space with wide-plank hardwood floors that had seen years of heavy foot traffic. The existing finish was worn down, the wood was dull, and you could see the wear patterns clearly across the open floor. Before we could do anything, every fixture and piece of furniture had to be protected or moved. We draped plastic sheeting over the front desk, covered furniture, and taped off sections with blue tape to map out our work areas precisely.

We ran three drum sanders across the floor simultaneously to strip the old finish down to bare wood efficiently. That's one of the things that separates a professional crew from a weekend DIY job - having the right equipment and enough of it to handle a space this size without cutting corners. Once the floor was sanded back to raw wood, you could see exactly what was under there: solid, quality hardwood with great bones that just needed a fresh start.

After sanding, we applied stain to bring the floors back to that rich, deep brown tone that complements the hotel's dark wood millwork, coffered ceilings, and classic architecture. The finished result is a floor that looks like it belongs in a five-star property - because it does. Clean, consistent color, a smooth finish, and not a sanding mark in sight.
